The Charles County Commissioners will conduct a Public Hearing to obtain the views of citizens on community, economic, and housing needs to be considered for submission of an application to the Maryland Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG).
Citizens will have the opportunity to discuss proposed projects and to provide input on other needs to be considered. The hearing will be held remotely via video teleconference on January 12, 2021 at 6:00 pm. The draft application will be available for the public to review on January 12, 2021 until January 19, 2021 on the Charles County Government website at www.charlescountymd.gov.

To speak during the January 12th Public Hearing, residents must call 301-885-2779 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on January 12th to register. Once registered, residents will be called between 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on January 12th, to testify. Each speaker will be allotted three (3) minutes. If you are not available to speak when you are called, we have the right to move onto the next caller.
Comments will be accepted December 26, 2020 starting at 8:00 a.m. through January 12, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. by using the e-comment feature at https://www.charlescountymd.gov/government/public-comments/2021-cdbg-public-hearing or by calling 301-645-0652 to leave a message. In addition, residents may submit comments by mail to the following address: Commissioners of Charles County, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, MD 20646. Comments sent by mail must be received no later than January 12, 2021.
This record will be kept open from the date the Public Notice is published until the date of the Public Hearing.
Citizens will be furnished with information including but not limited to:
- the amount of CDBG funds available; and
- the range of activities that may be undertaken with CDBG funds; and
- the proposed projects under consideration by Charles County.
The Maryland CDBG Program is a federally funded program designed to assist governments with activities directed toward neighborhood and housing revitalization, economic development, and improved community facilities and services. It is administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.
The Maryland CDBG Program reflects the State’s economic and community development priorities and provides public funds for activities which meet one of the following national objectives, in accordance with the federal Housing Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, that:
- benefit to low and moderate income persons and households;
- aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight;
- meet other community development needs of an urgent nature, or that are an immediate threat to community health and welfare.
