Charles County Government conducts community engagement and outreach activities on important policy issues, programs, and initiatives that affect the public to keep them informed and solicit input on the policies, plans and work of Charles County Government. This is a key function of the Media Service Division as part of its effort to help facilitate effective, ongoing two-way dialogue with the community.

Citizens Academy

The Charles County Government Citizens Academy program is designed to help promote a better understanding of Charles County Government.  The program includes 11 classes, focusing on the operations of each County Government department as well as the opportunity to learn about affiliated agencies.  As a culminating project, each cohort is tasked with using knowledge gained from the program to examine an issue impacting County Government operations and provide suggestions for novel approaches and solutions.  The cohort has the opportunity to share their project with Charles County Government leadership at the conclusion of the program.

Graduates of the program become Citizens Academy Ambassadors.  Ambassadors are encouraged to continue their engagement by participating in County Boards and Commissions, and supporting future Citizens Academy cohorts.
