PUBLIC NOTICE

Public Hearing: Amendments to the Charles County Comprehensive Water and Sewer Plan 

Notice is hereby given that the Charles County Commissioners will conduct a Public Hearing on May 4, 2021 at 6 p.m. to consider requested amendments to the Charles County Comprehensive Water and Sewer Plan. 

Applications for amendments to the Comprehensive Water and Sewer Plan are reviewed on a semi-annual basis, with application deadlines in February and August.  The Department of Planning & Growth Management received a total of thirty-six applications for amendments prior to the February 2021 deadline. The applications include request from the following parties: 

Whitman, Requardt and Associates, LLP regarding the VANGO Operations and Maintenance facility to-be-developed on Piney Church Road at St. Linus Drive in Waldorf.  The application request changes to the sewer and water categories for two parcels along Piney Church Road and the requested changes are from water categories W-5 to W-3 and from sewer categories S-5 to S-3. 

Whitman, Requardt and Associates, LLP on behalf of St. Charles Community, LLC regarding the to-be-developed Highlands neighborhood in St. Charles. The application request changes to the sewer and water categories for the subject parcel along St. Charles Parkway and the requested changes are from water categories W-5 to W-3DEV and from sewer categories S-5 to S-3DEV.

3970 Scott Tyler, Indian Head. The application requests changes to the sewer category for one parcel along Scott Tyler Pl and the requested changes are from sewer categories S-5E to S-3E.

Town of La Plata is requesting changes to the sewer and water categories for thirty-three parcels in the Town of La Plata. The requested category changes would modify the water/sewer categories from those that allow for water/sewer service at some point in the future to those that allow for water/sewer service that is in active planning and design. The meeting will be held remotely via video teleconference.  Persons with questions or requests for more information regarding this hearing may call 301-645-0692.  The hearing is open to the public and public testimony is encouraged.

To speak during the May 4, 2021 Public Hearing, residents must call 301-885-2779 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on May 4, 2021 to register.  Once registered, residents will be called between 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on May 4, 2021 to testify.  Each speaker will be allotted three (3) minutes.  If a registered speaker is not available to speak when called, the County has the right to move onto the next caller.  

Comments will be accepted April 16, 2021 starting at 8:00 a.m. through May 4, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. by using the e-comment feature at https://www.charlescountymd.gov/government/public-comments/amendments-to-the-comprehensive-water-and-sewer-plan or by calling 301-645-0652 to leave a message.  In addition, residents may submit comments by mail to the following address: Commissioners of Charles County, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, MD 20646.  Comments sent by mail must be received no later than May 4, 2021.
