NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The County Commissioners of Charles County will conduct a Public Hearing on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. to provide a review of program performance and status of grant activities for the following Community Development Block Grant projects;
- Angel’s Watch Family Shelter
- United Way of Charles County COVID Rental Assistance Program
Purpose of Projects:
Angel’s Watch Family Shelter; Final Public Hearing required for review of CDBG funds used for operations of the homeless/domestic violence shelter in Charles County.
United Way COVID Rental Assistance Program; Final Public Hearing required for review of Community Development Block Grant Emergency Rental Assistance Program funds used to assist households affected by COVID-19.
The meeting will be held remotely via video teleconference. Persons with questions or requests for more information regarding this hearing may call 301-645-0692. The hearing is open to the public and public testimony is encouraged.
To speak during the September 14, 2021 Public Hearing, residents must call 301-885-2779 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on September 14, 2021 to register. Once registered, residents will be called between 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on September 14, 2021 to testify. Each speaker will be allotted three (3) minutes. If a registered speaker is not available to speak when called, the County has the right to move onto the next caller.
Comments will be accepted September 1, 2021 starting at 8:00 a.m. through September 13, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. by using the e-comment feature at https://www.charlescountymd.gov/government/public-comments/angels-watch-and-united-way or by calling 301-645-0652 to leave a message. In addition, residents may submit comments by mail to the following address: Commissioners of Charles County, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, MD 20646. Comments sent by mail must be received no later than September 13, 2021.
The Maryland Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is a federally funded program designed to assist governments with activities directed toward neighborhood and housing revitalization, economic development, and improved community facilities and services. It is administered by the Department of Housing and Community Development.
The Maryland CDBG Program reflects the State’s economic and community development priorities and provides public funds for activities which meet one of the following national objectives, in accordance with the federal Housing Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, that:
- benefit to low and moderate income persons and households;
- aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight;
- meet other community development needs of an urgent nature, or that are an immediate threat to community health and welfare.
