Public Hearing: Bill 2021-07 Excise Tax Applicability

EXCISE TAX APPLICABILITY

The Charles County Commissioners will conduct a Virtual Public Hearing on September 29, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. to consider an amendment to the Charles County Code concerning the applicability of the excise tax, Bill numbered 2021-07.

The proposed legislation will amend Chapter 249-5 of the Charles County Code to clarify that all new residential development on property within the geographic boundaries of Charles County, Maryland is subject to the imposition of the excise tax for the funding of school construction.
The meeting will be held remotely via video teleconference. Persons with questions or requests for more information regarding this hearing may call 301-645-0555. The hearing is open to the public and public testimony is encouraged.

To speak during the September 29, 2021, Public Hearing, residents must call 301-885-2779 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on September 29. 2021 to register. Once registered, residents will be called between 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on September 29, 2021, to testify. Each speaker will be allotted three (3) minutes. If a registered speaker is not available to speak when called, the County has the right to move onto the next caller.

Comments will be accepted September 10, 2021, starting at 8:00 a.m. through September 29, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. by using the e-comment feature at www.charlescountymd.gov/government/public-comments/legislative-session-chapter-no-249-5-excise-tax-enactment-applicability or by calling 301-645-0652 to leave a message. In addition, residents may submit comments by mail to the following address: Commissioners of Charles County, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, MD 20646. Comments sent by mail must be received no later than September 29, 2021.

The County Commissioners reserve the right to extend the time frame allotted for the hearing. Bill 2021-07 may be viewed in the Office of the Clerk, or on the Commissioners’ Boarddocs website at https://go.boarddocs.com/md/chrlsco/Board.nsf/Public.
