COMMERCIAL REAL PROPERTY IMPROVEMENT
AND REHABILITATION TAX CREDIT
The Charles County Commissioners have rescheduled the Virtual Public Hearing to December 15, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. to consider an amendment to the Charles County Code establishing a tax credit for the improvement and rehabilitation of commercial real property within the Priority Funding Areas. It was originally scheduled for December 8, 2021.
The proposed legislation will amend the Charles County Code by adding a new section to Chapter 281 to provide a real property tax credit to owners of commercial property in the Priority Funding Area as encouragement and incentive for property rehabilitation. The proposed legislation also provides criteria for eligibility, the duration and amount of the proposed tax credit.
The meeting will be held remotely via video teleconference. Persons with questions or requests for more information regarding this hearing may call 301-645-0555. The hearing is open to the public and public testimony is encouraged.
To speak during the December 15, 2021, Public Hearing, residents must call 301-885-2779 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on December 15, 2021, to register. Once registered, residents will be called between 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on December 15, 2021, to testify. Each speaker will be allotted three (3) minutes. If a registered speaker is not available to speak when called, the County has the right to move onto the next caller.
Comments will be accepted November 19, 2021, starting at 8:00 a.m. through December 15, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. by using the e-comment feature at is https://www.charlescountymd.gov/government/public-comments/commercial-real-property-improvement-rehabilitation-tax-credit-bill-no-2021-11 or by calling 301-645-0652 to leave a message. In addition, residents may submit comments by mail to the following address: Commissioners of Charles County, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, MD 20646. Comments sent by mail must be received no later than December 8, 2021.
The County Commissioners reserve the right to extend the time frame allotted for the hearing. Bill 2021-11 may be viewed in the Office of the Clerk, or on the Commissioners’ Boarddocs website at https://go.boarddocs.com/md/chrlsco/Board.nsf/Public.
