Amendment to the 2016 Charles County Comprehensive Plan
Septic Tier Map
The Charles County Commissioners will conduct a Public Hearing on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., in a hybrid format, both virtually and in person, at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, Maryland to consider a proposed Amendment to the 2016 Charles County Comprehensive Plan. The Amendment would change the Tier Map designation from Tier 2 to Tier 4 and the Land Use Plan from Rural Residential to Agriculture Conservation for 900 acres of land in Newburg, located between US 301 and the Potomac River, south of Popes Creek Road and north of Cliffton. The purpose of this change is to ensure the Tier Map and land use designation are consistent with the existing Rural Conservation zoning of the property and to recognize this area would not be planned for public sewerage service. Individuals or representatives of groups wishing to make oral or written comments are encouraged to attend the hearing.
In-person: Speaker sign-up will begin 30 minutes (1/2 hour) prior to the hearing at the Charles County Government Building (200 Baltimore Street, La Plata) and will end at the commencement of the hearing.
Virtually: Call 301-885-2779 between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 25 to register to speak. Once registered, citizens will be called between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. after in-person speakers testify. If you are not available to speak when you are called, we have the right to move on to the next caller. In-person and virtual speakers will be allotted three (3) minutes.
Written comments may be submitted in lieu of oral testimony, or to expand upon oral testimony, and will be accepted May 6, 2022 starting at 8 a.m. through May 25, 2022, 5 p.m. for:
