Public Hearing: MASSB and SMTCAC Community Development Block Grant Projects

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Charles County Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on Wednesday, October 19, 2022,­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ at 6:00 p.m., in a hybrid format, both virtually and in person at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, Maryland, to provide a review of program performance and status of grant activities for the following Community Development Block Grant projects;

  • Maryland Association of Social Services Boards (MASSB) Charles County Chapter – Charles County COVID Rental Assistance Program
  • Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action Committee – Housing Counseling Services for families affected by COVID -19 through CARES Act.

Purpose of Projects:   

MASSB – COVID Rental Assistance Program; Final Public Hearing required for review of CDBG funds used to assist households affected by COVID-19.

Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action Committee; Final Public Hearing required for review of CDBG funds used to provide housing counseling services to households affected by COVID-19.

Individuals or representatives of groups wishing to make oral or written comments are encouraged to attend the hearing.

In-person: Speaker sign-up will begin 30 minutes (1/2 hour) prior to the hearing at the Charles County Government Building (200 Baltimore Street, La Plata) and will end at the commencement of the hearing.

Virtually: Call 301-638-0801 between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. October 19, 2022, to register to speak. Once registered, citizens will receive a virtual link to testify between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. after in-person speakers testify. If you are not available to speak when you are called, we have the right to move on to the next caller. Each speaker will be allotted three (3) minutes.

Written or voicemail comments may be submitted in lieu of oral testimony, or to expand upon oral testimony, and will be accepted September 30, 2022, starting at 8 a.m. through October 19, 2022, 5 p.m.  for:

Comments sent by mail must be received no later than October 19, 2022, prior to the start of public hearing. 

The Maryland Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is a federally funded program designed to assist governments with activities directed toward neighborhood and housing revitalization, economic development, and improved community facilities and services.  It is administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

The Maryland CDBG Program reflects the State’s economic and community development priorities and provides public funds for activities which meet one of the following national objectives, in accordance with the federal Housing Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, that:

  1. benefit low and moderate income persons and households;
  2. aid in the prevention or elimination of slum or blight;
  3. meet other community development needs of an urgent nature, or that are an immediate threat to community health and welfare.
