PUBLIC NOTICE
Amendment to the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Boundary for Charles County
ZMA 22-03, ZTA 22-172 and Bill #2022-10
The Charles County Commissioners will conduct a Public Hearing on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., in a hybrid format, both virtually and in person, at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, Maryland to consider an updated boundary of the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area for Charles County and its associated Zoning Text Amendment and Zoning Map Amendment. The Critical Area includes all land within 1,000 feet of tidal waters and tidal wetlands. House Bill 1253, passed by the State in 2008, requires the Critical Area Boundary to be updated. The State has delivered to the County a Summary Draft Critical Area Map for formal adoption. The Map can be viewed at: https://www.charlescountymd.gov/government/planning-and-growth-management/mapping-services. Individuals or representatives of groups wishing to make oral or written comments are encouraged to attend the hearing.
In-person: Speaker sign-up will begin 30 minutes (1/2 hour) prior to the hearing at the Charles County Government Building (200 Baltimore Street, La Plata) and will end at the commencement of the hearing.
Virtually: Call 301-638-0801 between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 2 to register to speak. Once registered, citizens will receive a virtual link to testify between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. after in-person speakers testify. If you are not available to speak when you are called, we have the right to move on to the next caller. In-person and virtual speakers will be allotted three (3) minutes.
Written comments may be submitted in lieu of oral testimony, or to expand upon oral testimony, and will be accepted October 14, 2022 starting at 8 a.m. through November 2, 2022, 5 p.m. for:
