NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Charles County Government will hold a public hearing on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. to revise an approved use under a grant awarded by the Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development’s Block Grant (CDBG) Program for COVID-19 rental assistance program. As other needs have been identified, CDBG funding can be used for other programs in conformance with program regulations.
In accordance with our CDBG Citizen Participation Plan, we are seeking public comment on our plan to provide funds for following services:
- Homeless Shelter Operations
The public hearing will be held in person at Charles County Department of Community Services, 8190 Port Tobacco Road, Port Tobacco, Maryland 20677.
Each speaker will be allotted three minutes. The hearing will end no later than two hours from commencement. Written comments may also be submitted to the Charles County Department of Community Services, Housing Authority, at 8190 Port Tobacco Road, Port Tobacco, Maryland 20677, attention to Barbara Farmer by November 30, 2022, in lieu of oral testimony or to expand upon oral testimony.
The Maryland Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is a federally funded program designed to assist governments with activities directed toward neighborhood and housing revitalization, economic development, and improved community facilities and services. It is administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.
The Maryland CDBG Program reflects the State’s economic and community development priorities and provides public funds for activities which meet one of the following national objectives, in accordance with the federal Housing Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, that:
- benefit low and moderate income persons and households;
- aid in the prevention or elimination of slum or blight;
- meet other community development needs of an urgent nature, or that are an immediate threat to community health and welfare.
