The Assignment Office is responsible for scheduling and docketing court hearing events for the judges’ and magistrates’ calendars.  When contacting the Assignment Office, please be sure to have your case number available.

Remote Hearings:

If you are unsure whether your next scheduled court event is remote or in person, please contact the court at the following:

  • Scheduled court events before a family magistrate call 301-932-3279.
  • Scheduled court events before a judge call 301-932-3201.

If your hearing is remote, anticipate for the court to email you a Zoom link the business day prior to your scheduled court event.

Reserving Courtroom Equipment:

Please submit a request to reserve courtroom equipment to ensure availability of the equipment on the day of the scheduled court event.

Courtroom and Judge Assignment:

The court may change the courtroom and/or judge assignments the morning of the scheduled court event.  Please always consult the large docket monitors across from the information desk, on the first floor, to confirm courtroom assignments.

Postponement Policy and/or Procedures:

All requests for a postponement are filed in the Clerk's Office.  Although the Assignment Office doesn't clear tentative dates prior to the court ruling on a motion to postpone, the Assignment Office will clear a new date with attorneys if the court grants a postponement request.  The Assignment Office will schedule a new date and send a hearing notice to the parties (if a party is not represented by an attorney), or the parties' attorney, (if represented).

Unforeseen Closure Due to Inclement Weather or an Emergency:

If the court closes due to an unforeseen circumstance, the Assignment Office will automatically reschedule all cases from the day of the closure.  Parties who do not receive a notice or order within two weeks should contact the Assignment Office at 301-932-3212.

Updating or Changing an Address:

To update or change your address in a case, contact the Clerk’s Office at 301-932-3201.  Please be sure to keep your address current so that you receive a hearing notice in your case.

Copy of Hearing Notice when Represented by an Attorney:

If you have not received your hearing notice and are represented by an attorney, then the Assignment Office sent the hearing notice directly to your attorney.

Interested Party:

If you received a hearing notice and are unsure why you received a notice, then it could be that you are listed as an interested party in the case.  Please review Maryland Court Records, otherwise known as Case Search, or contact the Clerk's Office at 301-932-3201.

Bringing Documents or Items to Court:

The Assignment Office can’t advise you what documents or items to bring to your scheduled court event.

However, if you are represented, then please consult your attorney.  If not represented by an attorney, parties who have a family or civil case can seek free limited legal advice.  Otherwise, please call the Clerk’s Office at 301-932-3201, and someone may be able to direct you to a law clerk.

Jury Summons

If you received a jury summons and are unable to serve or unavailable during the specified dates, then please contact the Jury Office.

Assignment of Deeds

The Assignment Office is different from Assignment of Deeds, which are filed in the Land and License Department under the scope of the Clerk’s Office.  For more information regarding Assignment of Deeds, please contact the Land and License Department at 301-870-2514.
