Treasury is responsible for stamping every deed before it can be recorded at the Charles County Courthouse, whether or not it is necessary for taxes to be paid.

If a property has been flagged by the State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT) for Agricultural Transfer Tax, Rezoned Real Property, FCMA Penalty, Homeowner's Tax Credit or Country Club Agreement, the deed will need to be presented to the SDAT first for clearance, then presented to Treasury for a stamp.

Even when re-recording a deed, you will still need to present the deed to Treasury to receive an update of the original stamp.

When recording a deed for a property in the Town of La Plata, please have it stamped by the town prior to presenting it to Treasury.
