Hughesville Village Water and Sewer Project

Project Manager: Aimee Castillo

Background

The Charles County Comprehensive Water and Sewer Plan has identified Hughesville as an area of concern. This area has a high groundwater table and is not suited for septic and other on-site treatment systems. In spite of the limitations, the Village is served by on-site septic systems resulting to water quality problems. Water quality has impacted current development and will limit the ability to revitalize the village.

Project Scope:

Charles County has contracted GHD as the project consultant for the design of public water and sewer facilities in the Hughesville Village Area.

This project include the site evaluation, survey, and design of two groundwater wells, an elevated water tower, water distribution system, packaged treatment plant, land application, and sewer collection system. The project goals are:

  1. To provide adequate water and sewer service in coordination with the Maryland Department of the Environment.

  2. To eliminate failing septic systems in the Village.

  3. Utilize land application techniques to avoid the establishment of a new point source discharge.

  4. Support the revitalization of the targeted Village.

Anticipated Schedule:

Estimated Design Completion: Spring 2027

Estimated Construction Start: Fall 2027

Schedule is subject to change and will be dependent upon availability of permits, weather, and other potential factors.
