The Charles County Health Department will use ARPA funds to focus on three key areas:

  • Response and Recovery- to begin the recovery from the pandemic and to continue response in the upcoming respiratory season. Funds will support a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Lead.
  • Behavioral Health Clinic Staff- provide more psychiatric services to the community since so many children and adolescents have been affected by the pandemic and because so many people have been traumatized.
  • Community Health Workers - fund community health outreach workers and a community health educator that will help the community with access to health services and services to address social determinates of health.

School-Based Health Center (SBHC):  Construction of a modular medical clinic on the grounds of Indian Head Elementary School will be used as a School-Based Health Center in partnership between Indian Head Elementary School, Charles County Public Schools, and the Charles County Department of Health.  The SBHC will support children's health outcomes and education.  SBHC benefits students and their families in numerous ways.  They provide primary, preventative, and urgent health care to students; support academic and educational achievement and reduce disparities - particularly those related to social determinants of health.

Department of Emergency Services - MIH Expansion - Behavioral Health Crisis Response Project:  Purchase, outfit, and staff mobile crisis units that will provide 24-hour services into the community where they are needed.  The Behavioral Health Crisis Response Team will work in collaboration with the Health Department to provide initial treatment, referrals, and follow up care with the Department of Health-Behavioral Health Division.
