Public Safety Dispatcher ELIGIBILITY LIST PROCESS
- Please click Here to apply for an Eligibility List. If there are no vacancies available, you can complete a Job Interest Card that allows you to be notified as soon as your job of interest becomes available.
- Please ensure your application meets the criteria below before submitting. Once you’ve submitted your application, you cannot edit it. Please make sure to provide an updated and active email address on your application, as emails will be sent throughout each step in the process. Please do not type "See resume" or "See attached" on your application.
- To qualify for further consideration, applicants MUST specifically indicate on their application they possess the following:
- High school diploma or GED;
- Computer/pc proficiency;
- Typing proficiency – please indicate on your application how many words per minute you can type.
- To receive additional points towards the candidate's score, he/she must attach:
- Valid certification in EMD, EFD, EPD and ETC.
- 1 point maximum for any Military, Fire, EMS, or Law Enforcement experience
** Candidates who do not include all information on their application and/or who do not include/attach copies of certifications will not move forward in the Eligibility List process. Please note, we no longer accept paper, emailed, or faxed applications. We only accept online applications through the Charles County Government web site.
- Candidates who qualify will be invited to take a computer-based skills exam, dates TBD.
- Candidates who successfully complete the skills exam will sit for an interview, dates TBD.

Once the interview process has concluded, your cumulative scores from each step in the process will determine your final score, which will then determine if you’ve made it on to the eligibility list. Once the eligibility list is finalized, you will receive an email with your placement on the list and the next steps. The eligibility list is good for 1 year and as positions become vacant, you will be updated on your placement on the list.
The Communications Division requires that an employee work one of two shifts, either permanent day shifts or permanent night shifts. More information about which shift you will be assigned, will be discussed if/when there becomes a vacancy.
