EMT-B & Paramedic Application Process
- Please click Here to apply for an Eligibility List. If there are no vacancies available, you can complete a Job Interest Card, that allows you to be notified as soon as your job of interest becomes available.
- Please ensure your application meets the criteria below before submitting. Once you’ve submitted your application, you cannot edit it. Please make sure to provide an updated and active email address on your application, as emails will be sent throughout each step in the process. Please do not type "See resume" or "See attached" on your application.
EMT-B (BLS Providers) Only: ELIGIBILITY LIST PROCESS
- Applications for the EMT-B eligibility list must attach the following certifications to the application to qualify:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum one (1) year BLS experience
- Current certification as an EMT-Basic – must attach a copy of certification to application
- To receive additional points toward the candidate's score, he/she must indicate and/or include:
- Hazmat Ops
- EVOC
- MFRI Rescue Courses (up to 4 points possible)
- Valid US Armed Service veteran – include honorable military service information in the Employment History section of the application and include a copy of DD-214.
** Candidates who do not include all information on their application and/or who do not include/attach copies of certifications will not move forward in the Eligibility List process. Please note, we no longer accept paper, emailed, or faxed applications. We only accept online applications through the Charles County Government web site.
- Applications for the EMT-B eligibility list must attach the following certifications to the application to qualify:
- Candidates who complete the application and attach copies of their certifications successfully, will be invited to take the written exam (dates TBD). There are no make-up dates for the written exam. Qualified applicants will be notified if they are eligible to take the written exam. In preparation for taking the exam, you can visit https://iosolutions.com/product/cwh-ngff-study-guide-online/ for exam preparation materials. This counts for 30% of your final score.
- Those who successfully pass the written exam will be invited to take the physical agility test (PAT). Eligible candidates will be notified of the available dates, times, and location. If you have successfully completed the PAT with another jurisdiction within the last year, please attach your certification to your application. Please see a video link demonstrating how the PAT is performed, CPAT Prep Video below.
- Candidates who successfully pass the physical agility test (PAT) will sit before a panel to complete a Skills/Oral exam, available dates, times and location will be provided. This counts for 30% of your final score.
Below are links that will beneficial in helping you prepare for the exam;
- Once the Skills/Oral exam is successfully completed, those that passed will sit for a panel interview, available dates, times and location will be provided. This counts for 40% of your final score.
- Once the interview process has concluded, your cumulative scores from each step in the process will determine your final score, which will then determine if you’ve made it on to the eligibility list. Once the eligibility list is finalized, you will receive an email with your placement on the list and the next steps. The eligibility list is good for 1 year and as positions become vacant, you will be updated on your placement on the list.
**Both Full-time and Part-time employees will be required to attend a mandatory 6 week academy, once hired.
Paramedic (ALS Providers) Only: ELIGIBILITY LIST PROCESS
- Applications for the Paramedic eligibility list must attach the following certifications to the application to qualify:
- High school diploma or GED
- Current certification as a Paramedic – must attach a copy of certification to application
- CPR – must attach a copy of certification to application
- Maryland card or equivalent, with a minimum 24 hours of instruction
- To receive additional points toward the candidate's score, he/she must indicate and/or include:
- Hazmat Ops
- ACLS
- PALS
- EVOC
- MFRI Rescue Courses (up to 4 points possible)
- Valid US Armed Service veteran – include honorable military service information in the Employment History section of the application and include a copy of DD-214
