The Charles County Family Recovery Court (FRC) builds strong and healthy families by offering timely, intensive treatment and support for parents with substance abuse problems that prevent them from providing safe and appropriate care for their children. The FRC uses a holistic approach to support parents and families, with consistent monitoring, intensive treatment, referrals to ancillary services, and the collaborative efforts of an experienced Drug Court Team.

The FRC Program is voluntary.  In order to be considered for the FRC Program, participants must meet the following requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age;
• Must have a substance use disorder diagnosis;
• Must meet one of the following criteria;
  • Have an active Child In Need of Assistance (CINA) case, with a permanency plan that includes reunification; 
  • Have a child under an Order of Protection Supervision by the Department of Social Services (DSS); 
  • Have a custody or visitation matter with a court order mandating substance use disorder treatment; 
• Must be willing to engage in substance use disorder treatment; and
• Must sign a written agreement to participate upon entry into the FRC.

MAKE A REFERRAL TO THE FAMILY RECOVERY COURT

To successfully complete and graduate from the FRC program, the court requires your involvement in several activities which will benefit and sustain your recovery. As a participant in the FRC, you will be required to:

• Engage in substance use disorder treatment;
• Attend frequent court sessions;
• Submit to random urinalysis screenings;
• Participate in self-help/sober support and/or prosocial activities (if recommended by treatment);
• Obtain employment and/or attend school;
• Obtain your high school diploma or GED; and
• Achieve all 4 phases of the program.
